Structure Design Architect

Full Time

Have you ever dreamed of launching something you developed into space? Of contributing everything you have learned and everything you will learn to master one of the most challenging tasks in engineering? Have you ever imagined that an opportunity will come to join a space technology company in its very first months, to leave traces in its culture and to become one of the few people on earth who are almost as close to space as astronauts? If you like these thoughts - we want to talk to you.

A career at REFLEX

We believe that continuous and tireless questioning of the way things are done in our industry is key to revolutionary products and services. Progress requires breaking the rusty paradigms of space technology to create something new on their remains.

REFLEX is the first venture backed small satellite manufacturer in Europe and the only one aiming to build highly sophisticated, software defined, small and medium class platforms (200-500kg) at project turnaround times which are only common for simple CubeSat projects. We will push the boundaries of space engineering to deliver tailored platforms at serial production speeds by carrying modular digital engineering, software defined capabilities and cutting-edge production and assembly technologies to the extreme.

As one of our first employees you will have a major impact on the future of the company and will participate in its success. You will build the framework for our future day to day business and contribute to the genesis of one of the most motivating and inclusive company cultures. By joining REFLEX, you will leave your footsteps in the history of spaceflight.

Your Role and your Team:

We are looking for an outstanding Structure Design Architect to join our team and to contribute to the architecture and design of our responsive satellite platforms from day one. As part of a mixed team of electrical, embedded and software engineers, you will actively contribute to the definition of the architecture of the platform and of its key subsystems. You will provide guidance to colleagues with less experience and ensure that our products meet the requirements of our most demanding customers.

Whether you are working on the top level platform architecture, on the detailed definition of its key subsystems or on their evaluation and testing, you’ll have the chance to play a fundamental role in supporting a full product lifecycle, from conceptual design and requirement definition to production transition. At the end of your first year at REFLEX, fully working prototypes of most vital subsystems will be finalized.

Your Day to Day

  • Design and implement rapid manufacturing approaches

  • Plan, conduct and lead MAIT & qualification activities

  • Support colleagues and other teams with your expertise in

    • Configuration management

    • Requirements management

    • Product Lifecycle management

    • Supply chain management

  • Identify process, product and service gaps and propose and implement solutions to close these gaps

  • Interface with software, GNC, propulsion, avionics, thermal, structures, ground segment, and communication subsystem teams to ensure smooth internal design and manufacturing processes

What you bring

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (aerospace or other high performance lightweight construction domains such as motor racing, MSc/M.Eng is a plus)

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience

  • Excellence in understanding and implementing advanced technologies to produce cutting edge solutions (e.g. topology optimization)

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to integrate state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods to smoothen MAIT processes

  • Experience with engineering tools (CAD, FEM), SolidWorks is a plus

  • Fluent English language skills are essential, any other language would be beneficial

  • Willing to relocate to Berlin

Life at REFLEX

You are joining us as part of our early core team. We are currently based in Berlin in a dedicated office in one of the most famous and vibrant CoWorking communities of the City – the Factory Görlitzer Park. A factory membership comes automatically with your contract – and once COVID19 is over it will include even more benefits – such as yoga and meditation sessions. From November on we will relocate to a 400m2 space in Berlin Friedrichshain where we will develop our first plattform. We are also planning to establish manufacturing and testing facilities in Bavaria, where we already have an office.

We strongly believe in the power of diverse teams. We think that innovation is born through interaction and exchange of people with different backgrounds. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified individuals regardless of ethnicity, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
